Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) was an English writer, publisher and literary critic, considered to be one of the major modernist figures in the United Kingdom and beyond. Her intricate, non-linear prose style is widely known as the stream of consciousness and her numerous essays became a perfect specimen of genre. A Room of One's Own is a long essay based on two lectures on women and fiction that Woolf read in 1928. Since then it became recognized as one of the most important feminist texts of the 20th century coining an acclaimed statement that "a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction."
