Joseph Jacobs (1854–1916) was an English literary critic, folklorist, and historian. He served as the honorary secretary of the British Folklore Society and was the head of the literary committee at the London Folklore Congress. “English Fairy Tales” is a collection of traditional English folk tales, first published in 1890. Joseph Jacobs selected the most interesting and captivating stories that had been passed down orally for centuries. He managed not only to preserve the unique folkloric character of these tales but also to make them accessible to both children and adults.
