Canadian writer who created the red-haired Anne Shirley and wrote a series of books about her. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, on Prince Edward Island. She died on April 24, 1942. Montgomery's novels continue to be incredibly successful. The very first one, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908 and brought fame to the writer. The story tells of an orphan girl who ends up at Green Gables Farm with a family of brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla. With her kindness, openness, and dreaminess, little Anne wins over even the most callous and strict people. The novel has been adapted into films and cartoons, including the 2017 Netflix series Anne. And the house-museum on Prince Edward Island dedicated to Anne is constantly visited by crowds of tourists.
